Christopher Nicole

Christopher Nicole was a British author of historical fiction, adventure, romance and espionage thrillers. Born in Georgetown, British Guiana, in 1930, he was educated in Guyana and Barbados before working for the Royal Bank of Canada. He moved to Guernsey in 1957, the year his first book—a history of West Indian cricket—was published. Nicole subsequently produced more than two hundred novels and nonfiction books, writing under numerous names including Andrew York, Peter Grange, Caroline Gray, Alan Savage and C. R. Nicholson. He also collaborated with his wife, Diana Bachmann, under the shared pen name Max Marlow. He died in Guernsey in 2017.

Nicole specialised in long historical series and family sagas set during periods of warfare, revolution and imperial change. His fiction ranges across the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and Asia and includes the Caribee of the Hiltons, McGann, Jessica Jones and Anna Fehrbach sequences. Many of his novels follow families, soldiers, spies and ambitious individuals through the First World War, the Second World War and the Cold War, combining international conflict with romance, political intrigue and personal rivalry. His unusually large and geographically varied catalogue makes him particularly relevant to readers interested in historical adventure and multigenerational fiction.
