Aulus Plautius

6 BCE–57

Aulus Plautius was the Roman general who led the invasion of Britain under Emperor Claudius in AD 43. His command marked the beginning of sustained Roman rule in southern Britain and made him a central figure in the first phase of Roman Britain’s conquest.

In Simon Scarrow’s The Eagle’s Conquest, Macro and Cato take part in the invasion commanded by Aulus Plautius as the legions force crossings and fight towards the tribal centre of resistance. In Simon Scarrow’s When the Eagle Hunts, a Druid faction captures the wife and children of the Roman commander Aulus Plautius and threatens to execute them unless its demands are met. Other novels featuring Aulus Plautius include Simon Scarrow’s Under the Eagle, Michael Arnold’s The River Warriors, and Michael Arnold’s The Hemlock Throne.
