Judaea, AD 46. Macro and Cato are posted to a frontier fort where local resistance, corrupt administration and pressure from Parthia threaten Roman control. Their official task is to restore order and strengthen relations with communities angered by occupation, but a religious movement and a conspiracy inside the province draw them towards open conflict. The mission exposes the limits of military force in a region shaped by faith and imperial rivalry.
Judaea presents Rome with a problem military occupation cannot solve by itself. Religious authority, local elites and resentment of taxation all affect whether a fort can control the surrounding population. Macro and Cato must distinguish ordinary opposition from organised revolt while provincial corruption continually gives communities new reasons to distrust Roman promises of order.
