Crusader

by Ben Kane Book 2 in the Lionheart Series series.

4.5(1,717)

In 1189, Richard I becomes king and begins raising money and troops for a crusade to recover Jerusalem. Ferdia accompanies him through France and Italy to Sicily, where disputes with local rulers and with Philip II of France delay the expedition before the army sails east.

At Acre, the crusaders face disease, hunger, divided leadership and repeated attacks while Saladin’s forces surround them. After the city falls, Richard leads the march south along the coast, with Ferdia fighting beside him as the army is harried by mounted archers. Their journey culminates at Arsuf, where Richard must hold his men together and choose the moment to unleash a charge against Saladin’s army.
