Eagles of Rome

Lucius Cominius Tullus begins as a newly promoted centurion on Rome’s German frontier, where a wager on a foot race draws him into a deadly dispute. Years later, he marches east with Governor Varus and three legions, unaware that Arminius has united German tribes and prepared an ambush in the Teutoburg Forest. Tullus survives the destruction of the army, but his legion’s eagle is lost.

Five years after the massacre, Tullus returns to Germania with the Roman forces sent to punish Arminius and recover the missing standards. He leads his men through raids, battles and treachery as Germanicus drives deeper into tribal territory. Even after one eagle is recovered and Arminius is defeated, Tullus continues the hunt for his own legion’s standard while Arminius raises another army to destroy the invaders.
