The Shrine

On the German frontier in 6 BC, newly promoted centurion Lucius Cominius Tullus wagers on a foot race between rival legionaries. A dispute over the result leads him into the streets and back alleys of a Roman border town, where treachery turns the bet into a threat to his life. His search for a way out takes him to the shrine of an Egyptian goddess and forces him to confront how quickly a soldier’s fortunes can change away from the battlefield.
