The Shrine
First published 2015
On the German frontier in 6 BC, the newly promoted centurion Lucius Cominius Tullus wagers on a foot race between two rival legionaries. When the result is disputed, the argument follows him from the course into the streets of a Roman border town.
What begins as a soldier’s bet becomes a struggle involving deception, violence and an attempt on Tullus’s life. Forced into the back alleys beyond the safety of his barracks, he searches for the men responsible and is drawn to the shrine of an Egyptian goddess, where he must act quickly if he is to escape the consequences of his wager.
