Hannibal: Enemy of Rome

by Ben Kane Book 1 in the Hannibal series.

4.4(1,874)

As Hannibal prepares Carthage for war with Rome, Hanno, the son of one of his commanders, goes fishing with his closest friend Suni. A storm carries them out to sea, where pirates capture them and take them to an Italian slave market. Suni is sold to a gladiator school, while Hanno is bought as a field slave.

Hanno enters the household of the Roman siblings Quintus and Aurelia and forms an unexpected connection with them despite the hostility between their peoples. He must also survive the cruelty of an overseer and find a way to help Suni. When Hannibal invades Italy, the war separates families and turns friendship into a danger, drawing Hanno, Quintus, Aurelia and Suni into a conflict that will force each of them to choose where their loyalty lies.
