Hilary Green

Hilary Green is a British author of historical fiction whose career followed many years in drama education. She trained as an actress at Rose Bruford College before becoming a teacher of drama and theatre studies, and later founded a youth theatre company. Green holds a first-class education degree from the University of Liverpool and a master’s degree in writing from Liverpool John Moores University. She has written novels, BBC educational scripts and short fiction, winning the Historical Novel Society’s Kythira Prize for one of her stories. She also publishes historical sagas under the name Holly Green.

Green’s novels span the First Crusade, medieval English succession, Victorian Liverpool and both world wars. Twice Royal Lady recounts Empress Matilda’s struggle for the English throne, while Ironhand and God’s Warrior follow an English adventurer through the First Crusade. Her twentieth-century fiction includes We’ll Meet Again, Operation Kingfisher and the Kim Maxwell thrillers, which explore the Special Operations Executive, occupied Europe and wartime intelligence. Writing as Holly Green, she has also produced the Frontline Nurses novels, Victorian workhouse sagas and the Behind Enemy Lines trilogy set during resistance and civil conflict in wartime Yugoslavia.
