Allied planners created fictitious armies, false radio traffic and controlled double agents to persuade German commanders that the principal invasion would land at the Pas-de-Calais rather than Normandy.

Physical decoys and misleading intelligence reinforced existing German expectations. The deception continued after D-Day to delay the movement of reserves.
