The King’s Assassin

by Angus Donald Book 13 in the The Outlaw Chronicles series.

First published 2015

4.6(1,022)

By 1214, King John’s taxation and failed wars have alienated many of England’s leading barons, including Robin Hood, now Earl of Locksley. Alan Dale becomes involved in the effort to compel the king to recognise limits on royal power, while John uses informers, mercenaries and assassination to divide his opponents.

The struggle moves towards Runnymede and the agreement later called Magna Carta, but neither side treats negotiation as an alternative to violence. Alan must protect allies and identify the agent killing men who threaten the king. The novel places the outlaw legend inside the baronial coalition that turned private grievances into a constitutional crisis.
