Ends of the Earth
First published 2023
In 53 BC, Tribune Valerius survives the Roman disaster at Carrhae only to be captured and carried beyond the eastern frontier. While Caesar, Pompey and their allies move toward civil war, Valerius is isolated in territories Rome cannot control and must rely on people whom his own culture dismisses as enemies or barbarians.
An escape becomes an overland and maritime struggle across deserts, mountains and distant kingdoms. The promise made to the wife he left behind drives Valerius toward home, but every stage of the journey changes his understanding of Roman power and the identity to which he hopes to return.
