Jack Whyte was a Scottish-Canadian author best known for historical novels that reinterpret legendary figures through realistic political and military settings. Born in Scotland in 1940, he moved to Canada in 1967 and worked at various times as an actor, singer, poet and public speaker. He later settled in Kelowna, British Columbia, and received an honorary doctorate for his contribution to Canadian popular fiction.

Whyte achieved international success with the Dream of Eagles series, also published as the Camulod Chronicles, which presents the Arthurian legend against the collapse of Roman rule in Britain. Beginning with The Skystone, the series follows the families and communities that establish Camulod and prepare the way for Arthur’s rise. He also wrote the Templar Trilogy and the Guardians of Scotland series, exploring the Knights Templar, William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Whyte died in 2021 at the age of eighty.
