Year of the Four Emperors

69 CE

Nero's death in AD 68 ended the Julio-Claudian dynasty and exposed the power of provincial armies to make emperors. Galba was murdered in Rome, Otho lost to Vitellius, and eastern legions then declared for Vespasian.

The resulting campaigns drew armies across Italy and brought fighting into Rome itself. Vespasian's victory founded the Flavian dynasty and restored a measure of political stability.

Daughters of Rome follows fictional aristocratic women whose marriages, ambitions and safety are repeatedly altered as each claimant replaces the last.
