Battle of Tewkesbury
1471 CE
The Battle of Tewkesbury was fought in 1471 after Edward IV returned from exile and defeated Lancastrian forces. Prince Edward of Lancaster was killed, and Henry VI died soon after in the Tower of London. The battle effectively ended the main Lancastrian line’s immediate hopes.
Tewkesbury matters because it gave Edward IV a period of firmer control after years of instability. It also removed a key Lancastrian heir and reshaped the dynastic landscape. The battle illustrates the lethal stakes of royal bloodlines in late medieval politics.
