Kingmaker

Kingmaker follows former monk Thomas Everingham and former nun Katherine as the Wars of the Roses break apart the religious, social and political order that once defined their lives. Beginning with their flight from a priory in 1460, the sequence carries them through Yorkist campaigns, the northern Lancastrian resistance and the renewed struggle between Edward IV and Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick.

Across four novels, Clements places two fictional survivors close to Towton, Edgcote, the Readeption of Henry VI and Tewkesbury without turning them into masters of history. Their marriage, loyalties and hidden knowledge are tested by dynastic propaganda, military service, exile, disease and battlefield medicine, giving the conflict both its national scale and its cost to ordinary people.
