Readeption of Henry VI
3 October 1470–11 April 1471
In 1470 Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick, and George, Duke of Clarence, forced Edward IV to flee England. Warwick released Henry VI from the Tower of London and restored the Lancastrian king, whose renewed rule became known as the Readeption.
The restored regime depended heavily on Warwick and on an uneasy reconciliation between former enemies. Edward returned in March 1471, regained support as he moved south and resumed the throne on 11 April before defeating his opponents at Barnet and Tewkesbury.
