This history traces the dynastic conflict that divided fifteenth-century England and became known as the Wars of the Roses. Beginning with the weaknesses of Henry VI’s rule, it follows the rival claims of Lancaster and York through deposition, restoration, rebellion and battles including Towton, Tewkesbury and Bosworth. The narrative examines the ambitions of Edward IV, Warwick the Kingmaker, Margaret of Anjou, Richard III and Henry Tudor, while also considering the disappearance of the Princes in the Tower.
