Bloodline

by Conn Iggulden Book 3 in the Wars of the Roses series.

Richard of York is dead, but his son Edward inherits both his claim and a seasoned alliance with Warwick. Margaret of Anjou gathers Lancastrian forces to defend Henry VI and her son, while Edward moves rapidly to claim the crown. The competing kings and armies meet in the brutal campaign culminating at Towton, where victory establishes Yorkist rule without ending the dynastic struggle or the ambitions of those who helped place Edward on the throne.

Towton establishes Edward IV by force but cannot settle the political relationships that made victory possible. Warwick’s support is indispensable, Margaret remains committed to her son’s inheritance and many nobles have changed allegiance before. The novel therefore treats the battle as the beginning of Yorkist rule rather than the end of the Wars of the Roses.
