Agamemnon

Agamemnon was the king of Mycenae and commander of the Greek coalition in the Trojan War. His dispute with Achilles weakens the Greek army, and traditions about the sacrifice of Iphigenia and his murder after returning home connect the war to the violence within the House of Atreus.

In Susan C Wilson’s Clytemnestra’s Bind, Before Clytemnestra becomes queen of Mycenae, Agamemnon seizes her home, kills her first husband Tantalus and their infant son, and forces her into marriage. In Marion Zimmer Bradley’s The Firebrand, Trained between the worship of the Goddess and the temple of Apollo, she resists the roles expected of a royal daughter while Paris’s return with Helen gives Agamemnon the pretext for war. Other novels featuring Agamemnon include David Gemmel’s Troy: Shield of Thunder, Costanza Casati’s Clytemnestra, Susan C Wilson’s Helen’s Judgement, Euripides’s Electra and Other Plays, and David Gemmel’s Troy: Lord of the Silver Bow.
