Big Week

In February 1944, the United States Army Air Forces launch a concentrated series of attacks against the German aircraft industry while fighter escorts seek direct combat with the Luftwaffe. Bombers, escort fighters, German interceptors and flak batteries take part in an air battle fought across central Europe.

Holland follows crews and commanders on both sides to explain why the offensive mattered before D-Day. The losses remain severe, but long-range American fighters and growing Allied production force Germany to spend pilots, fuel and aircraft it cannot replace. Big Week becomes a turning point in the struggle for air superiority over western Europe.
