England, 1938. The Secret Service asks Maisie to impersonate the daughter of an important British prisoner whom Nazi Germany has agreed to release from Dachau. Her resemblance to the woman and her experience in Spain make her suited to the mission, but success depends on performing a family relationship under close German observation.
In Munich, Maisie also receives a request from the man she holds responsible for her husband’s death and encounters the spectacle and menace of Hitler’s regime at close range. Retrieving the prisoner becomes inseparable from determining which additional risks she can accept without compromising the mission or surrendering her judgement to private revenge.
