The Belle Trilogy

The Belle Trilogy follows Belle Reilly and the next generation of her family from Edwardian London through two world wars. Belle begins in 1910, when a sheltered girl raised in a brothel is abducted and trafficked to New Orleans. The Promise returns to Belle during the First World War as she volunteers as an ambulance driver on the Western Front.

Survivor shifts the focus to Belle’s daughter Mariette, whose escape from provincial New Zealand takes her to London shortly before the Second World War. Across the trilogy, family bonds and romantic loyalty are repeatedly tested by prostitution, migration, battlefield service and the Blitz, while each generation must decide what survival and freedom require.
