Jeff Shaara is an American author best known for historical novels centred on warfare, military leadership and the individuals caught within major conflicts. He is the son of Michael Shaara, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Civil War novel The Killer Angels. Jeff Shaara continued that story with Gods and Generals and The Last Full Measure, creating a trilogy that follows the principal commanders and campaigns of the American Civil War.

Shaara has since written novels covering the American Revolution, the Mexican–American War, the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. His works include Rise to Rebellion, To the Last Man, The Rising Tide, The Frozen Hours and The Shadow of War. His fiction combines extensive historical research with multiple viewpoints, placing senior commanders, political leaders and ordinary soldiers within detailed accounts of strategy, combat and the human consequences of war.
