Pacific War Series

The Pacific War Series is a two-book sequence covering the transformation of the Pacific conflict from the attack on Pearl Harbor to the Battle of Midway. To Wake the Giant follows diplomacy, Japanese planning, American intelligence failures and the sailors caught in the assault of 7 December 1941; The Eagle’s Claw continues through carrier warfare and the intelligence contest that shaped Midway six months later.

The books move among Franklin D. Roosevelt, Cordell Hull, Isoroku Yamamoto, Chester Nimitz, Chūichi Nagumo and Joseph Rochefort, while also using fictional servicemen to represent those inside ships and aircraft. Together they show how strategic assumptions, codebreaking and chance turned a devastating surprise attack into a major reversal for Japan.
