Battle
Pearl Harbor
1941 CE
Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japanese carrier aircraft on 7 December 1941. The strike damaged the U.S. Pacific Fleet, killed thousands and shocked American public opinion. It was followed by declarations of war and the rapid expansion of the Pacific conflict.
The attack mattered because it brought the United States directly into World War II and created immediate stories of sailors, nurses, families, intelligence failure and mobilisation. It also transformed strategy across the Pacific and linked the American war effort to conflicts already underway in Europe and Asia.
