Hugh Gough, 1st Viscount Gough was the British commander-in-chief in India during the Sikh Wars. He led hard-fought victories at Mudki, Ferozeshah, Sobraon, Chillianwala and Gujrat, though his preference for direct attacks caused heavy casualties and controversy.
