Book
Lords of the North
With Wessex temporarily secure, Uhtred returns to Northumbria to reclaim Bebbanburg and settle old debts. The north is divided among Danish rulers, Saxon nobles and churchmen, while the captive king Guthred becomes the focus of a struggle over authority.
Uhtred’s attempt to restore Guthred and recover his own lands leads through slavery, shifting alliances and warfare around Northumbrian strongholds. His loyalty to friends repeatedly conflicts with his determination to regain the fortress stolen from his family.
