The Lost Viking

by Peter Gibbons Book 8 in the The Viking Blood and Blade Saga series.

4.6(5,206)

Northumbria, 881. Grieving for the wife and child killed during the war with Rollo, Hundr turns to raiding and single combat along the English coast. A storm separates him from his companions and delivers him into the hands of Vikings who force captives to fight in a slave arena. While Einar searches for him, Hundr must survive captivity, gladiatorial violence and the ambitions of men who profit from enslaved warriors.

The arena reverses Hundr’s usual position: a warrior accustomed to choosing raids and opponents is reduced to property whose value lies in surviving for spectators. Einar’s search runs in parallel, testing the loyalty of the crew Hundr once led. The novel uses enslavement to expose the darker economy beneath Viking warfare, where captives can be traded, displayed and killed for profit.
