Excalibur

Arthur’s alliance is breaking after Lancelot’s rebellion and Guinevere’s betrayal, while Saxon armies under Cerdic and Aelle press deeper into Britain. Derfel helps Arthur gather the remaining British forces for the campaign that culminates at Mount Badon, where the survival of the western kingdoms depends on defeating the invaders.

Victory brings only a temporary peace. Rival claims surrounding Mordred, broken oaths and renewed civil war lead Arthur and Derfel towards the final Battle of Camlann. The novel follows the destruction of the political order Arthur tried to create and Derfel’s last service to the warlord whose story he preserves.
