Book
Hemlock at Vespers
This first collection of Sister Fidelma stories presents shorter investigations drawn from different stages of her career as a dálaigh and religieuse. The cases range across abbeys, royal households and travelling communities, involving suspicious deaths, stolen objects, disputed testimony and crimes disguised by religious custom.
Together the stories show how Fidelma applies Brehon law, close observation and formal questioning to problems that cannot be resolved by rank or reputation. The collection also supplies episodes from outside the main novel sequence, expanding the background of Fidelma, Eadulf and seventh-century Irish legal society.
