Book
Death in Berlin
First published 1955
In 1953 Miranda Brand travels by train to divided Berlin with her British Army cousin and his family. A fellow passenger tells a story about diamonds looted during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, awakening fragments of Miranda's own childhood escape from wartime Europe before the storyteller is murdered.
In the ruined and occupied city, further deaths connect the missing fortune to Miranda's past and to someone watching her movements. Army investigator Simon Lang follows the same clues, but Miranda must recover the memory she has suppressed before the killer decides that she knows too much. The former title was Death Walked in Berlin.
