Berlin Wall and Divided Berlin

1961–1989 CE

East German authorities closed the border through Berlin in August 1961 to stop citizens leaving for the West. Barbed wire developed into a fortified system of walls, patrol roads and controlled crossings.

The Wall became the most visible symbol of Europe's Cold War division. Escape attempts, family separation and political confrontation continued until border controls collapsed in November 1989.

Edge of Eternity follows German characters on both sides of the barrier from its construction to its fall.
