March AD 773. Bjarki has become Fire Born, able to summon the spirit of a bear in battle, but fears that another surrender to the rage will destroy the person he remains outside combat. Tor, meanwhile, is determined to free occupied Saxony and supports Widukind as he attempts to unite the northern tribes against Charlemagne’s Franks.

The rebellion demands alliances among Saxons, Danes and Norse adventurers whose interests do not fully coincide.
