Fury of the King
Following the death of Ragnar Lothbrok, King Horik moves against those he suspects of disloyalty. Ulf returns to Jelling expecting to join another raid but instead walks into a political trap and narrowly escapes. Branded an enemy of the crown, he must decide whom to trust as royal power closes around his companions and family. The conflict brings Ulf’s personal saga into the struggle for control of ninth-century Denmark.
Horik’s suspicion transforms the royal court into a place where loyalty can be redefined without warning. Ulf has to distinguish between service to a king and loyalty to the people who have fought beside him, while the death of Ragnar destabilises older alliances. The novel treats Viking politics as a contest of households and followers rather than a simple sequence of raids.
