David Healey is an American author of historical fiction, military thrillers and regional history. He has worked as a journalist, teacher and ghostwriter, including a twenty-one-year career as a reporter and editor. His debut novel, Sharpshooter, is an alternative-history Civil War thriller involving a plot to assassinate Union general Ulysses S. Grant. Healey has also written other Civil War novels and the historical study 1812: Rediscovering Chesapeake Bay’s Forgotten War.

He is best known for action-driven novels set during the Second World War, particularly the series beginning with Ghost Sniper and continuing through books such as Ardennes Sniper, Red Sniper and Pacific Sniper. His wartime fiction draws partly on interviews he conducted with veterans of the US 29th Infantry Division who landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day. Healey’s novels combine battlefield detail, covert missions and individual rivalries, often focusing on sharpshooters operating within major campaigns in Europe and the Pacific.
