An abbess related to the Uí Fidgente warlord Conrí and a senior scholar are murdered, while six young women vanish from their religious community. Rumours attribute the crimes to a mysterious figure called the Master of Souls, whose influence is spreading through a countryside still unsettled by conflict between Muman and the Uí Fidgente.
