Priam

Priam was the elderly king of Troy during the Trojan War. He presides over a royal family divided by war and loss, and his journey to Achilles’ camp to ransom Hector’s body is one of the central scenes of compassion in the Iliad.

In Marion Zimmer Bradley’s The Firebrand, Cassandra, daughter of Priam and Hecuba, grows up in Troy with visions that reveal the destruction approaching her family and city. In David Gemmel’s Troy: Shield of Thunder, the balance around Troy becomes increasingly unstable as Agamemnon expands his influence and Priam's court struggles with rivalry, pride and succession. Other novels featuring Priam include David Gemmel’s Troy: Lord of the Silver Bow, David Gemmel’s Troy: Fall of Kings, Susan C Wilson’s Helen’s Judgement, and Manolo Palomares’s The Last Night of Troy.
