George Armstrong Custer

1839–1876

George Armstrong Custer was a United States cavalry officer who rose rapidly during the American Civil War and later served in campaigns against Native nations on the Great Plains. He and much of the 7th Cavalry force under his immediate command were killed at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876.
