SAS Great Escapes Two

The second volume presents six further escape stories from the earliest SAS operations through the advance into Nazi-occupied Europe. Among the central figures is David Stirling, whose capture and repeated attempts to evade permanent imprisonment reveal how the regiment’s founder applied the same appetite for improvisation to captivity that he brought to desert warfare.

Other cases follow lesser-known soldiers through bluff, concealment and encounters with enemy search parties. Lewis places the escapes within the operational failures or battlefield reverses that made them necessary, while recognising the guides, families and resistance members whose decisions often determined whether a fugitive reached safety.
