SAS Great Escapes Four

The fourth volume ranges across the desert war, occupied France and Italy, following soldiers whose missions ended with isolation, imprisonment or pursuit. The cases include escapes from enemy-held territory and prisoner-of-war camps as Allied forces fought through very different landscapes and security systems.

Lewis concentrates on the decisions made after formal plans ceased to be useful. Fugitives rely on resistance lines, improvised disguises, stolen transport and local families, while injury and exhaustion make every border or checkpoint dangerous. The collection treats escape as a continuing operation rather than an accidental epilogue to combat.
