Hunter’s Rage

by Michael Arnold Book 3 in the The Civil War Chronicles series.

Captain Innocent Stryker and his company are posted to Dartmoor, where an elite Parliamentarian cavalry force led by Colonel Gabriel Wild attacks them and inflicts severe losses. Wild’s pursuit is assisted by Osmyn Hogg, a witchfinder with his own history of hatred towards Stryker. Cut off from the Royalist army, the survivors take refuge on a remote granite tor occupied by a former priest who has little sympathy for the king’s cause.

The arrival of Cecily Cade gives Stryker information that may affect the Royalist campaign, but protecting her makes escape more difficult. Hounded across the moor and through the war-damaged south-west, Stryker must preserve a company close to disintegration while refusing Wild the revenge he wants. Their contest ends at Stratton, where Cornish and Parliamentarian forces fight for control of the region and private vendettas are absorbed into a decisive battlefield.
