On a flight from Paris to Croydon, a moneylender is discovered dead in the rear cabin, apparently killed by a poisoned dart. Poirot is among the small number of passengers and briefly becomes a suspect because the weapon is found near his seat.
The investigation moves between the modern enclosed space of commercial aviation and the financial secrets that connect the travellers on the ground. Christie uses the novelty of interwar air travel to create a locked-room problem in public view, while Poirot reconstructs how conventional assumptions about passengers, luggage and service conceal the practical means of murder.
