Beauvallet
First published 1929
The Elizabethan privateer Sir Nicholas Beauvallet captures a Spanish ship and takes aboard Doña Dominica de Rada y Sylva and her father. Rather than hold them for ransom, he returns them to Spain and promises that he will come back for Dominica despite the price placed on his head.
To keep that promise, Beauvallet enters hostile Spain in disguise and relies on audacity, deception and allies inside the country. The story combines an Anglo-Spanish maritime conflict with a romance shaped by pursuit, imprisonment and escape.
