Adrian Westbrooke

Adrian Westbrooke is an author of historical naval fiction whose work is shaped by a longstanding interest in maritime history, exploration and warfare during the Age of Sail. An experienced offshore and cruising sailor, he brings practical knowledge of ships, navigation and life at sea to his fiction. His research encompasses the voyages of discovery and the prolonged naval struggles that placed Britain in conflict with France, Spain and the Netherlands during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

Westbrooke is best known for the Nicholas Cruwys Naval Series, which begins with Soundings Edge. The opening novel follows the young Nicholas Cruwys as he joins HMS Resolution under Captain James Cook, before the series carries him through voyages, political upheaval and naval warfare across the Georgian world. Subsequent books include Latitudes Edge, Longitudes Edge, Crescents Edge, Liberty’s Edge, Northern Edge, Revolution’s Edge, Burning Harbour and First of June. The novels combine seamanship, exploration and combat with the career development of an officer serving during a period of revolution and imperial rivalry.
