Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson was a Confederate general and one of Robert E. Lee’s most effective subordinates. He gained fame at First Manassas, conducted the Shenandoah Valley campaign and helped win at Chancellorsville, where he was accidentally shot by his own troops and died.

In Jeff Shaara’s Gods and Generals, beginning in 1858, the novel follows Robert E. Lee, Thomas J. Jackson, Winfield Scott Hancock and Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain as sectional conflict moves towards secession and war. In Bernard Cornwell’s Battle Flag, Robert E. Lee and Thomas J.
