Actress Jane Wilkinson asks Poirot to persuade her estranged husband, Lord Edgware, to grant a divorce. Edgware is soon found murdered, and witnesses insist that Jane visited him on the night of his death even though she appears to have an unbreakable alibi at a dinner party.
