Death at Philippi

In 42 BC, a storm sweeps Artemidorus from Cleopatra’s flagship and leaves him behind enemy lines. He must cross Thrace and Macedonia to reach the generals Saxa and Norbanus at Amphipolis, carrying intelligence that may determine whether Antony and Octavian can join battle on favourable terms. The journey exposes him to patrols, hostile communities and former allies who have chosen the Liberators.

At Philippi, Artemidorus returns to Antony’s side and joins the hunt for Brutus and Cassius as two armies contest the future of Rome. Personal revenge for Caesar’s murder becomes inseparable from reconnaissance, deception and the management of a battlefield divided by marsh, roads and fortified camps. The series concludes with the defeat of the Liberators and the destruction of the republican cause they claimed to defend.
