The Ides

Rome, March 44 BC. More than twenty senators are committed to killing Julius Caesar, while servants, gladiators and political allies help conceal the conspiracy. Centurion Iacomus Artemidorus, code-named Septem, leads a small intelligence group working inside the households of the suspected assassins. Every message, arrest and disappearance narrows the time available to discover where and how the attack will be made.

Artemidorus must move between Caesar, Mark Antony and men whose public loyalty disguises private treason. His agents risk torture and execution while the conspirators prepare violence on a scale intended to restore the Republic. The novel reconstructs the final days before the Ides of March as an espionage thriller in which the historical outcome is known but the survival of the fictional spies is not.
