James Holland

James Holland is a British historian, novelist and broadcaster who specialises in the history of the Second World War. His non-fiction books include Fortress Malta, Dam Busters, Normandy ’44, Sicily ’43, The Savage Storm and Cassino ’44, as well as the multi-volume War in the West history. He has written and presented numerous television and radio programmes, co-hosts the We Have Ways of Making You Talk podcast with Al Murray, and is closely associated with the Chalke Valley History Festival.

Holland is also the author of historical fiction set during the Second World War. His five-book Jack Tanner series begins with The Odin Mission and follows a British soldier through campaigns in Norway, France, Crete, North Africa and Sicily. Combining the research of a military historian with fast-moving adventure, the novels recreate battlefield conditions, weapons, tactics and the experiences of ordinary servicemen while following Tanner’s development from sergeant to company commander.
