The final Soldier’s Son novel places Andrew against opponents who know the terrain and can disappear among farms and communities affected by British counter-guerrilla policy. Training his men is only part of the problem: he must decide what victory means when civilians, old loyalties and personal vengeance have become inseparable from the campaign.
